It was born when Markus Stauss had the idea to create with modern instruments what in medieval times was called a "broken consort" - a band composed of wind and pluck instruments and strings including a percussion unit (SPALTKLANG – "split sound" is the German word for it). This ensemble is to play music suspected to become evergreens, which earlier on were produced by…

ULTERIOR LUX with Jean Chaine & Rémy Sträuli – the "Exciting Fusion Band", which produced the far around praised CD Evergreen.

ECHOES with Hans Anliker, Pit Kayser & Olivier Vogt, a chamber music ensemble which "opens doors to rooms, neither man nor woman have ever entered"

ÜBERFALL with Pit Kayser, special guest Jean Chaine and others, progressive Rock, strangely fascinating, with songs the texts of which still concern today.

Already the first sessions kicked off the interest to incorporate new musical material into the compositions, to alter arrangements and improvisation concepts of the evergreens and take up some of the "nevergreens" to unfold the "SPALTKLANG" (broken sound) at its best.

Between Mai and December 2010 we had to talk about a new line-up. Many discussions and sessions, a lot of thinking into different directions and tons of material for new compositions lead me to this "new project": Spaltklang enters the next decade of its history with an enlarged line-up: Christian Weber replaces Stephan Brunner and Jérôme Koopmann (trumpet and trombone) and Ruedi Schmid (el. guitar) join the band.
